Horizons students are engaged in building valuable skills, cultivating long-lasting relationships, and are better prepared for the following school year. With optimal student-to-teacher ratios, students are given ample individual attention and are offered opportunities that they might otherwise not have.
Organizational Goals
- Improve student academic achievement
- Achieve 97% or higher high school graduation rates among Horizons participants
- Encourage parental participation in their child’s education
- Encourage students to set and achieve post-secondary goals
- Increase awareness of healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise, and social-emotional health
- Ensure that students have adequate healthy food
- Develop interpersonal/intrapersonal skills, increase self-confidence and self-awareness
- Cultivate a sense of responsibility and creative problem-solving skills
- Teach students how to swim to increase confidence through personal skill development
- Ensure that students and families know they are part of a caring community
Spotlight on Outcomes
- Horizons students gain an average of 2-4 months of academic skills during the six-week program
- In 2022, more than 40 percent of Horizons faculty, staff, and volunteers were Horizons Colorado alumni
- 100% of our students learn how to swim
- We provide 12,180 nutritious meals throughout our 6-week summer program
